The Warm-Up Arena:

Equestrian Australia: Code of Conduct for Jumping Warm up arenas.

  • Respect must be shown to the Ring Marshal and fellow Athletes, at all times.
  • Follow instructions from the Ring Marshal at all times. Remember: Abuse of officials is a reportable offence.
  • Always consult the Ring Marshal before entering the warmup arena.
  • Inform the Office and Ring Marshal if you are scratching.
  • Inform the Office and Ring Marshal if there is an Athlete change.
  • If there is any reason the Athlete wants to change draw order, this must immediately be forwarded onto the Marshal and the Judge for approval.
  • Abide by the Show’s recommended number of Athletes in the warmup arena at any one time. For classes up to 130cm there is a maximum of 10 Athletes. For all classes 130cm and above there is no restriction.
  • Only Athletes involved in the current Competition can use the warm up arena.
  • It is the responsibility of the Athlete to replace all the rails you knock down in the warm up arena.
  • Warm up fences cannot be set more than 10cm higher and wider that the maximum dimensions of the current class.
  • Athletes to place warm up fences back to original height when finished warming up.
  • The nearest Horse to go on course has priority to use ONE warm up fence.
  • Do not return to the warm up fence after competing your round or have been eliminated.
  • Do not dismount and hold your Horse in the warm up arena unless you are adjusting riding equipment or tack. In this case you must be clear of any jumps.
  • No mobile phone, electronic devices or earphones can be worn in the warm up arena at a competition or in the competition arena. Athletes, grooms or any other person may wear one earphone at any other time while mounted.

Further information:

  • All practice obstacles may only be jumped in the direction for which they are flagged (red and white paint may be used to mark the wings of the jumps instead of flags).
  • No part of the practice obstacles may be physically held by any person.
  • It is not permitted to walk a Horses over poles when these are elevated or placed in cups at one or both ends.
  • The OC may provide material to simulate a water ditch in the Warm-Up Arena.
  • Gymnastic/training exercises are not permitted during the warm-up for a Competition.
  • Combinations are not permitted during the warm-up for any Competitions, except for Six Bar Competitions.

207.3 Use of electronic devices – including in the Warm-Up arena:


207.3.1 Mobile phone devices, other electronic communication devices, and earphones may never be used by an Athlete while mounted in the Warm-Up Arena during a Competition. Failure to comply with this Article will incur a Warning in accordance with JRs Art 261.


207.3.2 Mobile phone devices, other electronic communication devices, and earphones may never be used by an Athlete in the Competition Arena during a Competition. Failure to comply with this Article will result in Elimination in accordance with JRs Art 263.4.


207.3.3 Athletes, grooms, or any other person may wear one earphone at any other time while mounted.
